How far would you go to find The One?

A simple DNA test is all it takes. Just a quick mouth swab and soon you’ll be matched with your perfect partner the one you are genetically made for.

That’s the promise made by Match Your DNA. A decade ago, the company announced that they had found the gene that pairs each of us with our soul mate. Since then, millions of people around the world have been matched. But the discovery has its downsides: test results have led to the breakup of countless relationships and upended the traditional ideas of dating, romance and love.

Now five very different people have received the notification that they’ve been “Matched.” They’re each about to meet their one true love. But “happily ever after” isn’t guaranteed for everyone. Because even soul mates have secrets. And some are more shocking than others…

This book was not at all what I expected! I won't lie, when I read the description and then saw the cover I did think it was a bit bizarre as the cover doesn't exactly scream love, soulmate etc. So instantly you are given a hint that this story will not go down the route you expect it to and I'm glad. I'm all up for a funny romance every once in a while but they wouldn't be the genre I usually go for and luckily this wasn't the romance I initially expected.

The One is a thrilling and dark book that follows the lives of five very different people and how discovering they have 'The One' will dramatically change their lives forever, for better and for worse.

We get to know each of these people on a very deep and personal level. Each character carries their own story extremely well and you become so invested in where each of their journeys will take them; will they find true love with their match, is their match who they say they are etc?

I won't go into each of their stories in depth because it would spoil the best element of this book; the dark and twisted turns that occur. Let's just say that what initially looks to be a wholesome and optimistic story, quickly turns into an exposure of the lies, betrayal and the lengths people will go to in order to get what they want. Just when you think you've got a handle on where each story is going, BAM, Marrs accelerates the roller coaster of twists and turns and before you know it, you are doing upside down loops on Space Mountain!

The book does make you think; is their one soulmate out there for all of us or is that a fantasy that has been dreamt up over the centuries? What is programmed in us to love the ones we love and if you were to discover that the one you love is not your soulmate, what would you do? And if your soulmate isn't at all what you expected; a gender you weren't expecting, a lot older, a lot younger etc. would you still give them a chance? You can very quickly fall into a deep and dark hole of questions and existential crises!

All I'll say is read the book. It had me hooked from the very beginning and I flew through it! The characters are excellent and the constant twist and turns and dark themes that run throughout the book are so well thought out. Marrs doesn't leave anything amiss and ensures that the reader straps in for one hell of a ride!

“If you’ve got the opportunity to love someone as much as they love you, then grab it with both hands and hold on to it for dear life.”

I really don't know...each character brought so much to the overall story so I really can't say!
